The borough of Corby is located in Northamptonshire near Kettering, Rutland, Harborough and East Northamptonshire.

Once known as ‘little Scotland’ due to the large number of Scottish workers that came to the area for employment in its steelwork industry, this heritage continues to this day.

The accent of the area – ‘Corbyrite’ is described by some as being close to Glaswegian, and there are many Scottish social and sports clubs. Some stores sell Scottish products, while an annual Highland event is held in Corby, which showcases Scottish sports, music and dancing.

The area is made up of Corby town, as well as several villages, giving those buying a new home in Corby plenty of choice.

Corby Attractions

Kirkby Hall for example, is described by English Heritage as ‘one of England’s greatest Elizabethan and 17th century houses’. Owned originally by the Lord Chancellor to Queen Elizabeth I, Sir Christopher Hatton, you can enjoy looking around the Great Hall and its recently restored gardens.

Aardvark Little Explorers is a great day out for families with little ones. The soft play area is filled with bubble tubes and fibre-optics, allowing children to learn in a multi-sensory environment.

Barnwell Country Park, located in the Nene Valley is a lovely spot where you can enjoy walking, cycling and picnics during the summer. It showcases 15 hectares of lakes, meadow and riverbanks, and is near to the historic market town of Oundle.

The town has two football teams, Corby Town FC, in the Southern League Premier and Stewarts and Lloyds Corby FC, who play in the United Counties League Premier Division.
