Things to see and do in Wellingborough

The town centre plays host to Wellingborough Museum, which is free to enter and even offers some hands-on activities for children. After you’ve seen some of the local landmarks such as Croyland Abbey and the historic Church of St Mary the Virgin, cross the River Nene on the edge of town to explore Irchester Country Park with its picturesque woodland and outdoor activities.

Education

There are a number of excellent local schools in the area, with the town’s Sir Christopher Hatton Academy next to Eastfield Park judged to be outstanding by Ofsted. Special school Friars Academy enjoys the same rating, along with Rowan Gate Primary School which caters for children aged between three and 11. 

Primaries rated as good by the education board include the Avenue Infant School and Park Junior School in the north of town, and St Barnabas CofE in the west. Isham CofE, a few miles north of Wellingborough, is classed as outstanding. 


Wellingborough transport links

Wellingborough lies at the meeting point of the A45 and A509 roads, which you can use to drive to both Northampton and Kettering in less than 20 minutes. Direct trains to the latter take just over five minutes, while services to London take under an hour, making Wellingborough a popular commuter town. London Luton Airport is just 40 miles away and Birmingham is an hour’s drive away.
