Things to see and do
Hucknall is a small town but there’s still plenty to do in the local area, whether you’re shopping at the independent boutiques, enjoying a coffee and cake at one of the cafes, or buying fresh produce from local sellers at the weekly markets. The town is also home to St Mary Magdalene Church, the burial site of Lord Byron.
If you enjoy discovering local history, there are lots of great attractions nearby including Newstead Abbey, Papplewick Pumping station and Nottingham Castle. Nottingham is also home to the Galleries of Justice and City of Caves, as well as high street shops at intu Victoria Centre and Nottingham Broadmarsh.
For families, there are lots of great things to do with the kids close to Hucknall, from cycling at Bestwood Country Park and meeting the animals at Floralands Farm Park to scaling the walls at Nottingham Climbing Centre.
If you enjoy sports, Nottingham Forest F.C. play their home matches at City Ground while Notts County F.C. play at Meadow Lane. For a leisurely round of golf, Leen Valley Golf Club and Bulwell Forest Golf Club are both close to the town.
Education
For families with school-age children, it’s important to find the right school when you’re moving to a new area. Hucknall is home to several ‘good’ schools as rated by Ofsted, including Hillside Primary and Nursery School, Beardall Fields Primary and Nursery School, Leen Mills Primary School, Holgate Academy and The National CofE Academy.
If your children are older and thinking about studying for a degree, the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Derby are all within commuting distance of the town.
Getting to Hucknall
Hucknall is well-connected to nearby towns and cities by road, rail and tram, making the town popular with commuters. Hucknall is only a 20 minute drive or 15 minute train journey from the centre of Nottingham, while the tram takes around 30 minutes. The journey from Derby takes 30 minutes by car.
From Leicester, the journey to Hucknall by car takes around 45 minutes, while the journey from Sheffield takes one hour by car or one hour 10 minutes by train, changing once in Nottingham. Lincoln is a one hour 10 minute drive away.
If you’re travelling to London, the train from Nottingham takes just one hour 45 minutes to reach St Pancras International. When it’s time to go on holiday, East Midlands Airport is a 30 minute drive away from Hucknall and can also be reached by public transport.
