Colour Trends

Colour is a defining feature in a home. It sets the tone as soon as you enter and shows your guests what your personality is like. We've found the best colour trends that you can incorporate into your new build home in 2020. From soft green to porcelain blue, there's a shade to suit every room.

Dulux - Tranquil Dawn

Inspired by the morning sky, Dulux have named their Colour of the Year as Tranquil Dawn. A soft, subtle shade of green, this colour has been designed to give "homes the human touch". Accompanied by four complimentary colour palettes, this is one of the most talked about colour trends for 2020 and as a result is sure to be a staple in a lot of homes this year.

To incorporate this colour trend into your home, you won't need to paint an entire room. Tailor certain parts of the room with this colour to subtly introduce it into your home. Do this by painting just half of a wall in Tranquil Dawn and complimenting it with a contrasting colour. This is called a two-tone wall. Similarly, you can use this colour in furnishings such as cushions, blankets or rugs.

GrahamBrown - Adeline

This deep, forest green comes from GrahamBrown's Colour of the Year for 2020. It's a colour that can be used with many neutral or softer tones for a less imposing feel. This shade has taken inspiration from Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury Group, channelling English country gardens and whimsical interiors.

This colour goes perfectly with blush pinks, concrete greys and light greens. For example, you could decorate the room with plush cushions, armchairs and stoney coffee tables for a cool and sophisticated look. If you're feeling a little less brave, paint a feature wall in Adeline for a pop of rich colour.

Pantone - Classic Blue

As the name suggests, Pantone's colour trend for 2020 focuses on a classic shade of blue. Described as "Instilling calm, confidence, and connection", this colour is perfect for the home. Additionally, Classic Blue has hints of the night sky, which gives it relaxing qualities.

Incorporate this colour into your bedroom, to help ease you into a deep sleep. The deep hues pair well with soft brown furnishings and bright green plants, creating a space you'll want to spend a lot of time in. You can also style your home with this colour by using it in furniture, hanging art, cushions or rugs.

Farrow & Ball - Colour by Nature

One of the simplest colour trends for 2020 is inspired by the the things we see everyday. Farrow & Ball have created a collection in collaboration with The Natural History Museum to reflect the colours found in nature. The collection is inspired by a single book that can be found in the museum's library - Werner’s Nomenclature of Colours. This detailed book was created to scientifically identify the colours found in nature, but is now used by many artists as a guide to finding the perfect shade.

Farrow & Ball's beautiful collection has 16 paint colours, all of which can go anywhere in the home. For example, Crimson Red would work well in your new living room on a feature wall. This deep, earthy colour pairs well with light, neutral tones to create a soft and inviting room.
