  • Blantyre has a good selection of schools in and around the town centre, with options for younger children including St Joseph’s Primary, Auchinraith Primary, High Blantyre Primary and David Livingstone Memorial Primary. Calderside Academy is the town’s only secondary school, although other local options include St John Ogilvie High in neighbouring Udston, East Kilbride’s Calderglen High and Hamilton Grammar School.

  • The East Kilbride Expressway passes through the southern part of Blantyre, which you can use to join the M74 motorway in no time. This means you can drive to Edinburgh in under an hour, while it’s less than 20 minutes to the centre of Glasgow. Trains into Glasgow from Blantyre station take 20 minutes too, while it’s a similar journey to the city’s major international airport in the car.
