The centre of town is dotted with historical landmarks such as the medieval Clock Tower and the Cathedral and Abbey Church of Saint Alban. You can discover more about the local area’s history at the St Albans Museum and Gallery, while the Verulamium Museum and Roman Theatre of Verulamium give you an insight into the town’s ancient Roman past.

St Alban and St Stephen’s, Cunningham Hill’s and Fleetville’s infant and junior schools are all in the education board’s top band too.
At secondary level, Loreto College is an outstanding girls’ school just steps from the train station. St Albans Girls’ School is another of the town’s top single-sex options, while Beaumont School and Sandringham School are mixed schools which are also outstanding.
St Albans transport links
St Albans City railway station is just off Victoria Street and offers non-stop services to London’s St Pancras which take just over 20 minutes. The town also has a train station next to the Abbey, as well as lots of local bus routes. St Albans is only 20 miles north of Central London, and offers excellent access to the M1, A1(M) and M25 motorways. You can drive to Heathrow Airport in just over half an hour, while Luton Airport is even closer.
