Things to see and do in Llantrisant

The ruins of Llantrisant Castle are a great spot to visit not only for the history but also for the impressive views. There’s more history on offer at the nearby Llantrisant Guild Hall, as well as the Royal Mint Experience just north of town. Continuing in that direction brings the Welsh Mining Experience, just the other side of 377-metre mountain Mynydd y Glyn, where you can enjoy more stunning vistas.

Garth Hill, Mynydd Meio and Craig yr Allt are other great wonderful spots for walks with a view, while Wales’s national lido, Lido Ponty, is five miles north of Llantrisant in Pontypridd. From awe-inspiring hikes through the Brecon Beacons to days at the seaside, you can also get to Cardiff in no time at all for even more culture, history, sports, leisure and entertainment options.

Education

This is a great place to live if you have young children, with a strong selection of local primaries all rated as good by Estyn. Llantrisant Primary and Penygawsi Primary both cater for kids of nursery, infant and junior age, while Tonysguboriau Primary is also near the town centre. Y Pant Comprehensive is the local secondary school, offering education to children aged up to 19 and receiving an excellent inspection report from Estyn last time round.

Llantrisant transport links

Cardiff is just over 20 minutes away in the car, making Llantrisant a great place to live if you work in the Welsh capital. The town doesn’t have its own train station, with the nearest one two miles away in Pontyclun. This is walkable or a short drive or cycle away, with services to Cardiff from here taking just 15 minutes. The M4 motorway passes just to the south of Llantrisant, providing easy access to South Wales hotspots Newport and Swansea, as well as South West England. Bristol, for example, is less than an hour’s drive away.

The Llantrisant property scene

Llantrisant’s proximity to the capital makes it very popular among home buyers, especially considering the favourable prices you can get in and around town. The average is significantly higher than across the rest of Rhondda Cynon Taff, but considerably lower than in Cardiff.

You can find everything from affordable flats and 2 bedroom terraced houses to large detached houses and stunning barn conversions in the area, catering for a wide range of budgets. There are also some superb 2 bedroom, 3 bedroom and 4 bedroom new build homes in nearby St Fagans, which also offers excellent access to Cardiff.
