Market Weighton is a quaint Yorkshire town with traditional country pubs, a farmer’s market and a village green. A number of walking and biking routes go through the town, including the Yorkshire Wolds Way and the Route 66 cycle way, while the William Bradley Heritage Tale reveals some of the town’s fascinating history.

If you like discovering country houses and estates, there are lots of historic buildings to explore just a short drive from the town including Normanby Hall Country Park and Burnby Hall Gardens. Scampston Hall and Walled Garden is nearby in Malton.

Other places of interest close to the town include Dalton Park, South Cave Falconry, North Lincolnshire Museum, The Pods leisure centre in Scunthorpe, Humber Bridge Country Park and the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Each year, the Kiplingcotes Derby horse race takes place in the local area, a historic event dating all the way back to the 16th century.

Education

If you’re moving to Market Weighton with a young family, Mount Pleasant Church of England Voluntary Controlled Junior School, Market Weighton Infant School, Warter Church of England Primary School, and South Hunsley School and Sixth Form College are all rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. Getting to Market Weighton

While there’s no longer a train station in the town, Market Weighton is well-connected by road. If you prefer to travel by public transport, there are regular bus services to York, Hull and beyond.

The town is a 35 minute drive from Hull, 40 minutes from York and 50 minutes from Scunthorpe. If you’re travelling from London, the journey takes around four hours by car depending on traffic, or two hours from York by train.

When you want to jet off on holiday, the drive to Leeds Bradford Airport takes one hour 15 minutes.
