If you enjoy days out in the great outdoors, there are lots of beautiful places to explore near Northallerton. The Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North York Moors National Park are only a short drive away, ideal if you love hiking or cycling in some of the country’s most impressive rural landscapes. Nidderdale and the Howardian Hills are also close to the town.

For families, there are plenty of kid-friendly attractions to choose from nearby including Big Sheep and Little Cow Farm, Camp Hill Adventure Park, Monk Park Farm and Falconry UK. The city of York is close enough for day trips, where you’ll find the National Railway Museum, Jorvik Viking Centre and York Castle Museum.

If you want to practice your swing, Romanby Golf Course is near to the town while Stokesley Golf Range has a crazy golf course for the kids and the young at heart.

Education

For families moving to the area with school-age children, there are several ‘outstanding’ schools in the area as rated by Ofsted including South Otterington Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School, Leeming RAF Community Primary School and Hurworth School. If your children are considering higher education, the University of York and York St John University are only a short commute from the town.

Getting to Northallerton

Whether you’re commuting for work or visiting friends and family, Northallerton is well-connected to towns and cities across the country. The town has its own train station, while the A684, A167 and A1(M) are all nearby.

If you’re travelling to Northallerton from York, the journey takes just 20 minutes by train or 45 minutes by car. Middlesbrough is a 30 minute drive away from the town or 35 minutes by train, while Harrogate can be reached in 45 minutes by car. For journeys to and from Newcastle, the journey takes 45 minutes by train or over one hour by car.

For journeys further afield, London is only two hours 20 minutes away by train while Edinburgh can be reached in two hours 15 minutes by train. If you’re going on holiday or travelling abroad for work, Durham Tees Valley Airport is only 30 minutes north of the town by car.
