Things to see and do in Elderslie

Whether you’re delving into the history of the village’s most famous son, William Wallace, shopping for some new things at Braehead Shopping Centre, or even hitting the ski slope to practise your moves, local lochs such as Castle Semple Loch are perfect for enjoying a relaxing walk.

From trips over to Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park and the coast, to nearby spots like the Dams to Darnley Country Park, Craigie Linn and the Ferguslie Gardens, you can also visit historic fortifications such as Johnstone Castle and Stanely Castle, or pop into Glasgow for the day.

The village’s primary school is Wallace Primary, which is just steps from the golf course on Greenhill Crescent. St Paul’s Primary is to the south east of the centre, while you’ll find Thorn Primary in neighbouring Johnstone. St Benedict’s High School lies just to the north west of the village across the A737.

Elderslie transport links

There are local buses you can use to get around, while the nearest train station is in Johnstone, which is walking distance from most houses in Elderslie. Services from here to Glasgow take just 15 minutes, while it takes a similar time to drive to Scotland’s biggest city. The M8 motorway passes close to the village, providing you with direct access to Edinburgh.

The Elderslie property scene

Elderslie has enjoyed rising house prices in recent years, outstripping the average growth seen across the rest of the UK. This is thanks to its relaxed atmosphere, proximity to Glasgow, and some great properties such as the beautifully designed 3 and 4 bedroom homes off Abbey Road in the south of the village.
