Although Holmfirth train station closed to passengers in 1959, the town still has good road links to nearby towns and cities, along with regular bus services from Hampshire bus station. Huddersfield is the nearest large town, around 20 minutes away from Holmfirth by car or 30 minutes by bus. Wakefield is 40 minutes away by car or one hour by bus, while Barnsley can be reached in just 30 minutes.
Travelling slightly further afield, Leeds is a 45-minute drive away from Holmfirth, while Manchester can be reached in one hour via the A635. The journey to and from London takes three hours 50 minutes by car from Holmfirth, or around two hours by train from Wakefield.
If you’re going abroad, Holmfirth is 50 minutes away from Manchester Airport, 55 minutes from Leeds Bradford Airport and one hour away from Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

Holmfirth is a lively town, with lots of events taking place throughout the year. Holmfirth Film Festival takes place at the end of May each year, while the town also hosts Art Week and Holmfirth Festival of Folk.

The Summer Wine Exhibition celebrates the famous TV series and is located in character Compo’s house.
