Things to see and do in Wakefield
There are plenty of interesting things to see and do in the centre of town, where you’ll find Wakefield Museum, the Gissing Centre and the town’s cathedral. Education
There are a number of outstanding schools in the Wakefield area according to Ofsted, with Rooks Nest Academy and Outwood Primary Academy Ledger Lane in the Outwood catchment area among of the top primary options. Jerry Clay Academy in Wrenthorpe is another local primary with top marks from the education board.
If you live to the east of Wakefield then you may find yourself in the catchment area for the outstanding secondary Castleford Academy, while the equally highly rated Outwood Academy City Fields is close to the centre of town.
Wakefield transport links
Wakefield boasts excellent transport links for both getting around West Yorkshire and places further afield. There’s a free city bus for residents and visitors alike, as well as a regular bus network, coaches and the Wakefield Westgate train station.
If you have a car, you’ll be close to the M1 motorway which runs north to Leeds and south towards Barnsley, Sheffield, Nottingham and Leicester, before reaching London in the South. Excellent access to the M62 also means you can drive to Manchester in less than an hour, while you can use the same road to reach Liverpool and Hull on opposite coasts.
