Nature to see in Epping
- Epping Forest. This 2,000-acre area of ancient woodland lies a stone’s throw from Epping and is London’s most extensive forest. It’s a mix of grassland, heath and streams and is home to rare fauna, fallow deer and muntjacs.
- Hainault Forest Country Park. Once a royal hunting forest, this is among the best nature spots in East England. It’s home to over 150 bird species, rare wildlife and plants.
- Wanstead Park. Wanstead Park lies further afield on London’s northwestern outskirts. It was once a landscape around Wanstead House. The house no longer exists, but the park remains the locals’ favourite.
- Raphael Park. This beautiful green space covers 44 acres of woodland, sports pitches, playgrounds, an ornamental lake and gardens.
- River Lee Country Park. This park covers about 1,000 acres between Waltham Abbey and Broxbourne, perfect for cyclists, walkers, families and wildlife lovers.
