New homes in Stone

Live the life

Located in Staffordshire only a short drive from Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent, Stone is an old market town on the banks of the River Trent. Whether you’re relaxing alongside the canal, cheering on the local sports teams or visiting the town’s annual food and drink festival, there’s plenty to see and do close to your new home in Stone.

Things to see and do

Stone is a pretty canal town, with a pedestrianised town centre that’s home to high street shops, independent boutiques and a regular market. The town has become known as a ‘foodie’ destination, with lots of restaurants and cafes along with a monthly farmers’ market and a food and drink festival each year in October.

If you enjoy getting active, you can hire a boat along the Trent and Mersey Canal, which goes through the town, or practice your swing at Stone Golf Club. Stone Cricket Club and Staffordshire County Cricket Club are both based at Lichfield Road, while the local football teams play at Springbank Park.

For the kids, Monkey Forest in Trentham is a popular place for fun-filled walks, while Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre, Foxfield Railway, Stafford Castle and Alton Towers theme park are only a short drive away.

Education

If you’re moving to Stone with a young, growing family, it’s good to know there are a number of excellent schools in the local area. Springfields First School, Newstead Primary Academy and St Joseph’s College are all rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, while independent schools nearby include St Dominic’s Priory School, The Yarlet School and Kinetic Academy.

For higher education, Staffordshire University and Keele University are both within commuting distance, perfect if your older children want to study for a degree within easy reach of home.

Getting to Stone

Stone is well connected by public transport, with the local train station linking to Stafford, Stoke and London. The A34 provides a route to Manchester and Birmingham, while the A51 leads to Chester. The M6 is also nearby, ideal for long-distance journeys north and south.

Stone is a 15-minute drive from Stoke-on-Trent, or less than 10 minutes on the train, while the journey from Stafford takes 20 minutes by car or under 10 minutes by train. Derby is a 55-minute drive away, while Birmingham can be reached in 45 minutes by car.

Travelling further afield, there’s a direct train to London Euston from Stone, with a journey time of two hours 15 minutes. The town is a one hour drive from East Midlands Airport, 50 minutes from Birmingham Airport and one hour from Manchester Airport, so there’s plenty of choice when you’re booking a holiday.
