  • Skipton train station is on Broughton Road in the heart of town. It offers a good selection of Northern services and has its own dedicated bus stop. There are trains to Leeds which take less than 40 minutes, while it’s a similar journey to Bradford. 

     

    The town is at the meeting point of four major A roads - the A56, A59, A65 and A629 - which you can use to easily get to places like Blackburn, Bradford, Harrogate and the Lake District. Leeds Bradford Airport, meanwhile, is less than 20 miles away. 

  • Skipton has one primary school rated as outstanding in the heart of town, which is Water Street Community Primary. Greatwood Community Primary is just to the south east of the centre, which also has two outstanding secondaries. These are Skipton Girls’ High School and Ermysted’s Grammar School, which is for boys. Craven College, meanwhile, is rated as good by Ofsted and caters for 16-year-olds and over in the west of town. 

  • A historic market town and one of the oldest mills in North Yorkshire, you can delve deeper in the local area’s history at the Craven Museum and Gallery. Browse the Mill Bridge Gallery art museum for more culture and visit Skipton Castle, a well-preserved fort that dates back to the 11th century. 


    Local green spaces include Aireville Park, which is great for kids and dogs, while Embsay Reservoir to the north of town is ideal for relaxing walks. Climb nearby Sharp Haw on the southern fringes of the Yorkshire Dales, explore Thornton Hall Country Park and check out local follies Lund’s Tower and Wainman’s Pinnacle, both close together just south of town.
