Benefiting from its close proximity to Glasgow, Coatbridge is well-networked for travel in and around Lanarkshire with six railway stations within the town. A satellite suburb of Glasgow, it’s just 10 miles east of the city centre. The former coal mining town is the site of the St Patricks Day Festival, an annual 10-day long celebration, and home to the Time Capsule leisure centre, which includes a water park and ice rink. Take a trip through time to 19th century Scottish industrial life at the Summerlee Industrial Museum.
If you’re into long walks along nature trails through parkland and wildlife refuges, head to Strathclyde Country Park between Hamilton and Motherwell. The park includes a Water sports Centre and the historical Bothwellhaugh Roman Fort and Bathhouse. It is also where you’ll find M&Ds, a theme park featuring white knuckle rides, miniature golf and Scotland’s only Tropical Rainforest.
For shopping, Hamilton boasts three shopping centres along with a wide variety of independent shops and a great selection of eateries. The town is linked by three railways stations to nearby Motherwell, Glasgow and Lanark.
Motherwell Concert Hall and Theatre is a large entertainment venue regularly showcasing live music, comedy and theatre. 12 miles south east of Glasgow, Motherwell contains a range of cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars, and boasts a selection of shopping destinations including the Motherwell Shopping Centre. The town lies next to the M74 motorway and is served by three railway stations which provide links to local areas and further afield.
