Glasgow School Guide

As the biggest city in Scotland, the sheer variety of schooling options in Glasgow makes it one the best places to live in the country if you have children. The city has a high concentration of excellent schools that any parent would be delighted for their kids to attend. Here we take a look at three of the best primaries and secondaries across town, so that you can learn a little bit more about the top schools in Glasgow.

Best primary schools in Glasgow

  • Hillhead Primary School

One of the largest primaries in the city with around 650 pupils, Hillhead is also one of the best. Lying next to the River Kelvin and Kelvingrove Park, the school is known for its high standards and promotes a healthy lifestyle among its students.

  • Garrowhill Primary School

This school in Baillieston achieved a very good report from Education Scotland when it was last inspected. Offering a pleasant community feel, it’s the perfect place to send your little ones.

  • Oakgrove Primary School

Rated as one of the best primary schools in Glasgow, Oakgrove lies close to the heart of the city. With only around 200 pupils, it’s ideal for those looking for a smaller school which can offer a slightly more engaged educational experience.

Best secondary schools in Glasgow

  • Jordanhill School

It may technically be an all-through through school, but Jordanhill ranks as one of the very best state secondaries in the whole of Scotland. Excellent in terms of achievement with the vast majority of students leaving with five or more National 5s, Jordanhill is often the top choice among families who live between the city centre and Clydebank.

  • Mearns Castle High School

Ideal if you live in South Glasgow, Mearns Castle is also rated among the top schools in the country. Lying along Waterfoot Road by the landmark which lends its name, the school is next door to Millennium Park and opens up to miles of beautiful open countryside. Back in the classroom, it’s one of Scotland’s highest-performing state secondaries when it comes to exam results, and usually passes inspections with flying colours.

  • St Ninian’s High School

Prioritising local primaries for admission yet accepting students from places such as Rutherglen and Cambuslang, St Ninian’s is another of the most popular high schools in Glasgow. It’s also only around two miles from our incredible Riverside @ Cathcart development, where you can find a collection of beautiful family homes matched by a wonderful setting.
