The best places to live in Devon

Whether you’re moving to the South West for the first time in search of more space and a relaxing way of life or you’ve always lived in Devon, this is a wonderful part of the UK to call home. You can expect beautiful natural scenery, great culture and a host of top schools for your children across a wide range of towns, cities and villages the length and breadth of the county. To help you narrow down some of your favourite spots across this large area, we’ve highlighted five of the best places to live in Devon.

Exeter

As the county’s second largest city, Exeter is a South Devon hotspot with plenty going for it. There are lots of great attractions in and around the city centre, including historical landmarks, leisure activities and family-friendly spots such as Crealy Theme Park & Resort. There’s also a great selection of new build properties in the area, not least at Victoria Heights in the suburb of Alphington, where you can find a fantastic collection of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes for sale.

Tiverton

To enjoy some of the best rural living in Devon, don’t miss the charming town of Tiverton. With the River Exe flowing through the heart of town and the local culture including Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life and Tiverton Castle, the surrounding countryside stretches for miles around. This town is brilliant if you love going for relaxing walks, jogs and bike rides.

Ilfracombe

For many people, the question of where to live in Devon revolves around which seaside resort to choose. Ilfracombe lies along the north coast and possesses all the striking scenery Devon is so famous for. Think rugged cliffs rising up around a small harbour, with inviting sandy beaches little more than a few miles away, not to mention coastal walks over to the picturesque Lee Bay.

Newton Abbot

A pleasant market town on the River Teign, Newton Abbot is only a few miles from Devon’s south coast. From trips to the seaside to walks around Decoy Country Park and Bakers Park, the town also has a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants. If you have your sights set on this part of Devon, our Berry Acres development is only around nine miles south of Newton Abbot in neighbouring Paignton.

Okehampton

Around 25 miles inland from Bideford along Devon’s northern coastline, Okehampton lies on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. This is a stunning place to live if you have your heart set on a rural lifestyle, where you can set out on foot to explore the expansive moorlands just a stone’s throw away. From your home at Okement Park, you can go hiking along rivers and over undulating landscapes, keeping an eye out for local wildlife which includes roaming ponies.

There’s no right or wrong answer if you’re asking where is the best place to live in Devon. However, deciding on the sort of lifestyle you’re after and the type of neighbourhood you’d like to live in will help you narrow down your choices.
