Movies and series for a cosy night in
If there’s one thing we all love to do during this time of year, it’s getting cosy on the sofa and binge-watching TV. There’s truly nothing better than shutting out the cold, grabbing your favourite snacks and enjoying a home cinema experience with your loved ones. Here’s our guide of must watch TV shows and movies this autumn.

Online streaming

We’re lucky to have a whole host of films and TV shows readily available at all times thanks to online streaming services such as Netflix; it’s constantly being updated with classic movies and TV series which leave us gripping our seats or laughing until it hurts. It also has a great kids’ section as well. These are just some of our favourites:

The Crown

Based on a true story, The Crown follows the twists and turns of the British Royal Family. It’s incredibly insightful and provides great historical knowledge,  but don’t let that put you off – it's also absolutely gripping.  Two award-winning series are available on Netflix now.

Homecoming

A new psychological thriller starring Julia Roberts is set to hit Amazon Video. It follows an ex-caseworker who once helped soldiers transition to civilian life before becoming a waitress. But there’s more behind it than a straightforward career change, and she may have been trying to forget about the real reason. Available on Amazon Prime November 2nd.

The Sinner (Series 2)

A gripping crime series which delves into why ordinary people commit brutal murders is back for a second series. Series 1 was rated 8/10 on IMDB, and series 2 is set to be just as addictive. You might want to binge watch this one. Available on Netflix November 9th.

Queer Eye

A feel-good reality series that follows a group of 5 gay men with individual talents as they give make-overs to men in America. It will make you both laugh and cry, and with two eight-episode long series, you can sit back and watch for hours on end. Available now on Netflix.

New film releases

If you’re still a fan of buying DVDs instead of waiting until they’re on a streaming service, there are some great films due to be released this month. Just make sure your equipment is still working before John Lewis stop selling DVD players

Incredibles 2

A follow-on from the Disney film which features retired Superhero parents and their children as they ditch their everyday lives to use their secret powers, this one is for the kids, but a guilty pleasure for adults too. Available on DVD from November 6th.

Christopher Robin

Based on the classic story books, this warming and heartfelt film follows Christopher Robin as he rekindles his old childhood friendship with Winnie-the-Pooh. They partake in adventures and help Robin re-discover himself and his love for life. A film for a cosy family night in. Available on DVD November 6th.

Alpha

An adventurous tale which follows a man who tried to survive in the wilderness after being left for dead. He befriends an abandoned wolf and together they face dangerous and unforgiving scenarios as they battle to make it home by winter. Available on DVD November 13th.

Crazy Rich Asians

A romantic-comedy in which a young Asian woman, Rachel, attends a wedding with her boyfriend Nick. But when she meets his friends and family, she’s surprised to learn they are incredibly wealthy and he’s one of the country’s most eligible bachelors. Available on DVD November 20th.
