The best schools in Liverpool

As a leading North West city and one of the UK’s most exciting urban areas, Liverpool is an attractive place to live for families. Educational standards are a key part of that, with some outstanding schools in Liverpool to send your kids in and around the city. Whether you live in the city centre, on the northern outskirts in Maghull or by the beach in Formby, here we take a look at some of the best schools in Liverpool, starting with a selection of the top primaries before moving on to secondary options.

Best primary schools in Liverpool

  • Forefield Community Infant and Nursery School

Classed as outstanding by Ofsted, Forefield is a popular choice for younger children and benefits from having a nursery attached. It’s easily one of the best primary schools in all of Liverpool, never mind at this northern edge of the city, where you’ll also find our Sundial Place development.

  • Gilmour Infant School

Found at the opposite end of the city not far from our Imagine Place site - where you can find a superb selection of 4 bedroom homes - Gilmour is also ranked as outstanding by the education board. Part of the Garston area, the local junior school is right around the corner when it’s time for your kids to move on.

  • St Nicholas Church of England Primary School

Close to the heart of Crosby and its popular sandy beach, St Nicholas CofE is an all-through primary which looks after children aged 4 to 11. It’s also in Ofsted’s top bracket, with around 200 pupils currently attending.

Best secondary schools in Liverpool

  • Blue Coat School

Regularly rated as one of the best secondary schools in Liverpool, this historic school in Wavertree traces its roots back to 1708. The Blue Coat School is a superb place for children to maximise their potential when it comes to exam results, while the ‘not for oneself but for all’ motto shines through in the school’s ethos and teaching.

  • Belvedere Academy

Lying next to Princes Park in the south of the city, the Belvedere Academy is another top-performing school when it comes to exam results in Liverpool. An all-girls state school originally established as Liverpool High School in 1880, the academy partners with Belvedere Preparatory School next door, which caters for kids aged 3 and up.

  • Wirral Grammar For Girls

If you live across the Mersey on the Wirral, the local girls’ grammar has been rated as Merseyside’s best secondary school in recent years. Located in the Bebington area and like the two secondaries above, Wirral Grammar For Girls has a sixth form attached. It adjoins the local boys’ grammar school and just like all the schools we’ve mentioned, it’s considered outstanding by Ofsted.
